Communicating with Empathy

Watch the recorded panel discussion

Panelists:
Lee McIntyre, Boston University
Reyhaneh Maktoufi, Rita Allen Civic Science Fellow in Science Misinformation at NOVA; The Story Collider
Daniel Jackson, MIT CSAIL, Portraits of Resilience

Moderator: Lindsay Brownell, Wyss Institute

We’ve all had to find new and different ways to communicate with each other lately, and they offer their own benefits and challenges. Tune in to a panel discussion with three experts in science communication, storytelling, philosophy, and misinformation to learn how to recognize and appeal to empathy when communicating with other people, and why simply presenting facts is often not effective at promoting understanding.

Summer Planning

ComMIT is planning to spend the summer working on new ideas and collaboration models for the upcoming fall semester. We’re looking forward to welcoming a new group of members, working with other student groups at MIT and beyond, and finding opportunities for the whole MIT community.

As always, let us know if you have an idea for an event that you’d like to run. We’re happy to help you plan and find funding for events that fit our mission.

Our last event of Spring 2019 was a workshop on personal websites!
